Eligibility Requirements for a Sponsor
A sponsor should meet three (3) main requirements for age, status in Canada, and financial sufficiency.
Age:
To be qualified for applying, you have to be over the age of 18.
Status in Canada:
To sponsor your family and relatives you must be a Canadian citizen, a resident of Canada, or an Indian registered in Canada. And must stay in Canada.
Financial ability:
You must be financially able to take the responsibilities of the person you invite. Such as their Basic needs. Like food, shelter, and clothing.
Financial Commitment of the Sponsor
The sponsor has the financial responsibility of the people he or she invited to Canada. The sponsor has to sign a document that is called Finacial Undertaking.
And it depends on age and relationship with the sponsor.
Except for Quebec, the length of the financial undertaking varies by province
• Spouse, common-law partner, or conjugal partner-3 years
• A dependent child under 22 age -10 years
• Dependent child over 22 age- 3 years
• Parents or grandparents- 20 years
• Other relatives-10 years
Processing Time of family program:
• Processing time is calculated based on different programs
• parents and grandparents- 24 months or 2 years
• Dependent child- 12 months Or 1 year
• spouse, common-law partner, conjugal partner- 12 months
• Humanitarian and Compassionate cases- 31 months
• And the other sponsorship like an adopted child, other relatives, Refugees and so on. That depends On a case based on the case.
However, if the application has complications, it may take longer.
